The origin of stroganoff isn't entirely clear but the prevailing story among historians is that it originated in the late 19th century at the hands of a French chef living in St. Petersburg, Russia.
The definition of stroganoff is meat or poultry cooked with onions, mushrooms, and sour cream.
Cubed chicken simmered in tomato cream sauce with mushroom. A little yogurt is added along with the cream, to make the dish lighter.
How to make Chicken Stroganoff
Ingredients
400 Grams Chicken Breasts ( cut into Cubes)
3 Tbsp Butter
1 medium onion (Finely Chopped)
100-gram mushroom ( sliced)
2 cup Chicken stock
1/2 tbsp tomato puree
1 tbsp tomato ketchup
5 cloves garlic
1 tbsp Flour
1/2 cup Cream
3 tbsp thick yogurt
Salt to taste
1/2 tsp pepper
1/2 tsp chilli powder
1 small capsicum ( Diced)
Procedure to make Chicken Stroganoff
1. Marinate Chicken with Salt, pepper, chilli powder, and oil. Keep it aside for half an hour.
2. Take a pan with a tight lid, put it on heat, and add 1 tbsp butter to it. Add chopped onion and cook till it's golden brown, then add sliced mushroom and cook it for 2 minutes. Remove it from the pan.
3. Add 1 tbsp butter to the same pan and add marinated chicken to it. Saute it for 4-5 minutes till it's brown on both sides. Add chicken stock to it and cover it with a lid and let it simmer for 20 minutes on low heat till the chicken is tender. Remove it from heat.
4. Take out 1/2 cup of chicken stock from it and blend in the flour to it. Keep the paste aside.
5. Return the pan to heat. Add tomato puree, tomato ketchup, garlic, and fried onion and mushroom to the chicken in the pan.
6. Add salt to taste, pepper, and chilli powder and stir in the flour paste and mix it well and bring it to boil.
7. Take the pan off the heat. Mix cream and yogurt well so no lumps are there and mix it in the pan.
8. Add chopped capsicum to it and heat it on low flame and serve it with steamed Rice.
